One of the most prominent Christian pilgrim centers in Kerala is Malayattoor. The church was set up by St. Thomas the Apostle which has been designated as an International Shrine by the Vatican. This magnificent church atop the 600 meter high hill was established in A.D. 900 and is a popular tourist center. The only way to reach the hill top shrine is to trek 2 km uphill along the scenic trail.

The church is a combination of Greco-Roman architecture with a traditional Greek styled altar. The old building now show signs of decaying. But it will remain to be seen whether these visually appealing building will continue to stand the test of time.
Deepuhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/03737135487163271898noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2675023977615417085.post-37958722235016943982011-02-13T07:34:00.000+05:302011-02-13T07:34:50.999+05:30Foggy Mornings

This beautiful foggy morning is a part of the Shimoga series. We camped near the river and the night was chilly. I woke up by 6 in the morning, partly because of the chill and due to my interest in an early morning landscape shot. I was strolling on the bank of the river mesmerized by the way the fog was skirting the surface of the still river just before the sunrise and decided to capture the moment.
Deepuhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/03737135487163271898noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2675023977615417085.post-782527628433062642011-01-24T15:53:00.001+05:302011-01-24T15:54:33.162+05:30Sunrise in the woods

I woke up early than usual for this shot, while on my trip to Shimoga and realized that the day brightens up slower in the forest. I spent most of the time by the riverside shooting mist before sunrise. As it got bright enough to see the forest paths, I moved into the denser woods to capture the early morning sun gleaming. The jungle was brought back to life from the cold night by the early sunlight cutting through the woods, lighting up wilderness with a warm glow.
Deepuhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/03737135487163271898noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2675023977615417085.post-57598889693183746872011-01-22T19:42:00.000+05:302011-01-22T19:42:31.798+05:30Mirror Effect

Last week I tripped to Sharavathi Wildlife Sanctuary situated in Shimoga district of Karnataka, with the help of Sharavathi Nature Trails, a non-profit Registered organization working on nature conservation. This is one place still untouched by the commercial tourism and you can get the real feel of nature here.

As a part of the trip, we camped near Sharavathi backwaters which lodges evergreen to semi-evergreen forests. Sunset is probably one of the best time to get engaged in landscape photography. The light is even, less harsh and helps capture rich colors in general. The play of light is phenomenal between full round sun heading to horizon and sunset as the tone move from the warm yellow to cool blue. And this transition happens pretty fast. Also, there would be enough ambient light just after sunset for a while when color blue intensifies.
The golden light from the sun filtered through the fog created a warm glow making this a rich scene, turning the mountain in the foreground into a silhouette. I had been to Mumbai last week to meet my friends and had a really good time there.

The Marine Drive is my favorite spot in the city. A stroll down this boulevard is definitely relaxing. The constant breeze from the sea and the panoramic view of Mumbai ensures that I revisit the 'C' shaped 3 kilometre long pathway every time I am in the city.
I love December. For the foggy mornings, shorter days, joy of Christmas, smell of cakes, decorated houses, year end discount sales, annual vacations and hope of making a new beginning the next year. But also do I hate it because, I fall sick often in winter.

I was spending a day at home, recovering from fever, reading about 'discovering your passion' and 'following your heart' stuff on the Internet when, by chance, my eyes fell on my friend's guitar lying in the corner of the room and that reminded me of the older times when I was interested in learning to play the guitar.

I have lost that interest now. Now, I prefer taking pictures of them to learning how to play.Deepuhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/03737135487163271898noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2675023977615417085.post-7802883066535064002010-12-26T22:00:00.000+05:302010-12-26T22:00:21.050+05:30A splash of color to your style

Canvas shoes remind me of my primary school days. I used to hate Wednesdays as we were expected to wear an all white uniform, complete with white canvas shoes. Those were the most boring pair of shoes I owned.
Years later when I walked in to this shop in Brigade Road, I loved the way pairs of bright canvas shoes added color to the shoe rack.Deepuhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/03737135487163271898noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2675023977615417085.post-47557676211344846472010-11-11T00:02:00.013+05:302010-12-26T18:44:48.083+05:30A soothing scene at sunset
This picturesque view is from the banks of Vembanad lake in Aroor town which is about 20 kms far from Kochi.Deepuhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/03737135487163271898noreply@blogger.com2tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2675023977615417085.post-54899019004525235342010-08-28T23:20:00.000+05:302010-08-28T23:20:09.148+05:30Soul soothing glow

This is an early morning shot of my bedroom window. The light streaming through the windows is a mix of direct sunlight with the green reflected from the surroundings creating a soul soothing beautiful glow.Deepuhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/03737135487163271898noreply@blogger.com4tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2675023977615417085.post-90302326111166717512010-08-08T23:25:00.001+05:302010-08-09T20:21:32.258+05:30For the taste of honey

I had been waiting all the while to click a bee or a butterfly on a flower. And I got a bit lucky yesterday. It was tricky to get the focus right with the bee moving all around the place. And add to it the pain of getting the timing right. I lost the count of shots where I mistimed or mis focused but ended up with a much better snap. That’s the one above, shot mid-day and handheld.Deepuhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/03737135487163271898noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2675023977615417085.post-87421720662526084602010-07-13T23:29:00.001+05:302010-07-13T23:29:57.704+05:30A sense of motion

Nandi hills is a pleasant get-away destination near Bangalore city. I was on my way to top from the foothill when I used a slow shutter to capture motion along the winding roads. I wanted a crisp image but to hold the camera still in the moving car was really tricky. I took a couple of shots but couldn't make a clear capture.
I liked the way this picture conveys depth with a sense of motion.Deepuhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/03737135487163271898noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2675023977615417085.post-38362168218984634702010-06-20T16:03:00.002+05:302010-06-20T16:14:13.353+05:30Watch, learn and enjoy!

There is a beauty that exists at macro level and we rarely get to see it. For some people, ants are one of life's most successful societies and I too feel the same way. They plan ahead, work diligently and keep things simple. There's nothing to do but watch, learn and enjoy!Deepuhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/03737135487163271898noreply@blogger.com0
